Stucco Calculator

Calculate base-coat and finish-coat purchases separately. Deduct measured openings, use coverage for the specified coat thickness, and round each product only after combining its required quantities.

Enter measurements below. Results update as you type, and optional prices can be added before sharing the estimate.

MEASURED MATERIAL TAKEOFF

Estimate stucco quantities

Use measured dimensions and the exact product or supplier values. The starting measurements are a worked example.

Enter coverage at the thickness of each base coat; matching coats use this same product and rate.

Use finish-coat product coverage at the specified texture/thickness.

Illustrative imperial rates: 20 sq ft per 80 lb QUIKRETE Scratch and Brown Base Coat bag at 3/8 in (lower end of its published range), and 70 sq ft per 80 lb Finish Coat bag at 1/8 in. Confirm current data and replace the rates for your products. Different base thicknesses/products require separate estimates.

The calculation

Stucco Calculator method

Base bags = ceiling(net area × base-coat count × (1 + waste) ÷ base coverage); finish bags = ceiling(net area × (1 + waste) ÷ finish coverage)

  • The two-base-coat option assumes scratch and brown coats use the same product and the same entered coverage rate. Different products or thicknesses need separate estimates.
  • Starting coverage is a product-specific example: 20 sq ft per 80 lb QUIKRETE Scratch and Brown Base Coat bag at 3/8 in, and approximately 70 sq ft per 80 lb Finish Coat bag at 1/8 in. Texture and actual application can change coverage.
  • For matching base material, sum unrounded requirements before rounding bags. Do not add a second waste allowance at purchase.
  • Coat count, allowable thickness, lath, water-resistive barriers, flashing, accessories, curing and substrate compatibility must follow the complete system instructions. This is not a mix-ratio or installation-design tool.

Quick examples

500 sq ft gross wall minus 40 sq ft openings460 sq ft net wall
Two matching base coats; 20 sq ft/bag; 10% waste50.6 raw base bags → 51 bags
Finish coverage 70 sq ft/bag; 10% waste7.23 raw finish bags → 8 bags, separate product

Examples are planning checks. Product-label coverage and whole pack sizes control the final purchase quantity.

Common questions

Understand the result before purchasing

01How many bags of stucco do I need?+

Deduct openings, add waste once and divide the area for each specified coat by the exact product’s per-bag coverage. Base and finish products are rounded separately.

02Why combine scratch and brown material before rounding?+

When both coats use the same product and rate, their leftover material can serve the same project. Combining unrounded requirements avoids buying an extra bag solely because each coat was rounded separately.

03Can I enter one base coat instead of two?+

Yes. Select one base coat plus finish when that matches the specified application. The tool does not determine which stucco system is suitable.

04Are the default coverage values universal?+

No. They are clearly identified QUIKRETE product examples at particular thicknesses. Replace them with your product and texture-specific data.

05Does the material subtotal include a complete installed stucco price?+

No. It includes only the base and finish bag prices you enter. Unpriced bags, lath, accessories, substrate work, labor, tax and delivery are excluded.
