Calculation methodology

How an EstimatorPad result is built and checked.

The goal is not to hide complexity behind a number. The goal is to show enough of the measurement, formula, assumptions, and purchase rounding that you can verify the estimate against the exact product you plan to buy.

Step 1

Measure first

Each calculator starts from the dimensions that actually control the purchase quantity: area, volume, depth, spacing, stock length, package coverage, or another measurable input.

Step 2

Keep assumptions editable

Waste, density, product coverage, package size, spacing, and other assumptions stay visible instead of being hidden inside a single unexplained result.

Step 3

Round like materials are sold

When a material is purchased as full bags, boards, sheets, rolls, boxes, panels, or cartons, the result rounds to a usable purchase quantity and keeps the unrounded math available for review.

Step 4

Check the calculation logic

Core calculation modules are covered by automated tests for formulas, unit conversions, purchase rounding, and edge cases. Route and content validation also run before production changes are accepted.

Limits and product data

Use the exact product label when it matters.

Coverage, yield, density, installed exposure, package size, and stock length can vary between products. Calculators that depend on those values keep them editable so a generic default does not silently replace manufacturer data.

Some calculators also show reference links for product data. Those references are there to help verify an input, not to imply sponsorship or that one product is required.

EstimatorPad provides planning estimates, not structural design, code approval, site inspection, or a substitute for product instructions. When the project depends on local code, structural conditions, waterproofing, electrical, plumbing, or another safety-critical requirement, confirm the result with the appropriate qualified source before purchasing or building.
