Core fence panel estimate basis
Separate runs: base panels = sum of ceil(clear run length / installed panel span)
- Round each separate run upward because partial panels still require a purchasable panel. Two 9 ft runs with 8 ft panels require 2 + 2 = 4 panels, rather than ceil(18 / 8) = 3.
- Waste and extra panels are shown separately from the base count.

Straight panel run
96 ft run, one 4 ft gate, 8 ft panels, 10% waste, one extra panel
- 1Subtract the 4 ft gate from the 96 ft run.
- 2Divide 92 ft by 8 ft panel width.
- 3Round base panels up.
- 4Add waste panels and manual extra panels.
Total panels: 15, before posts, hardware, or site-specific layout changes.
Estimate assumptions
Check these assumptions before ordering
- Quick modes deduct gate openings from pooled length. Separate runs uses clear lengths with gates already excluded.
- Separate runs rounds every uninterrupted section up to whole panels without sharing offcuts; quick modes can undercount across gates or corners.
- Waste percentage is applied to whole base panels.
- Posts, rails, pickets, concrete, hardware, slope, and code requirements are outside this narrow panel estimate.
Measurement checklist
How to measure
- Measure the fence path length or the length and width of a rectangular perimeter.
- For ordering, split at gates and corners and enter each clear panel run. Gate widths are not deducted again in Separate runs mode.
- Use the actual installed panel width from the product or design.
- Add manual extra panels when you want spares beyond the percentage allowance.
